This year's Melbourne International Festival of Brass (MIFB) gives brass players worldwide the opportunity of competing for A$10,000 in the Barry Tuckwell Brass Prize.
The competition, named in honour of Australia's premier orchestral brass musician, is open-ended. There are no restrictions on age, gender, musical style or choice of brass instrument. Soloists, duettists, small groups, large ensembles; classical, jazz, brass band and the indefinable are all eligible.
Participants are invited in the first instance to submit an entry on video to the MIFB's The Music Page. All entries will be considered by an adjudication panel made up of Tuckwell himself and members of the MIFB Faculty 2009 which includes Chuck Findley, Jeff Nelsen and Mnozil Brass.
The panel will select the outstanding entries which will then perform 'live' over the internet (through MIFB's partner, RivusTV) during MIFB Week, September 27 to October 3.
The winner will be announced during the final Mnozil concert which will be streamed online around the world on Saturday October 3, 2009.
This amazing concept gives every brass player and ensemble on the planet the opportunity to win a fabulous prize and gain instant international exposure.
All you have to do is enthral, electrify, excite and enlighten the judging panel with your artistry, musicality and imagination.
Online ticket sales have now opened for many of the main concerts for MIFB 2009.
Early bird prices are also available for full festival passes. $100 cheaper if you order before 1 JULY.
Phone sales will be available in a few weeks.
