10 years of MIFB will come to an end in 2012

Updated 8/12/2011

Hi all MIFB supporters,

We have decided that the 2012 MIFB will be our tenth and final MIFB.

It has been great fun helping to inspire students, teachers and performers here in Australia. We also feel some pride in the fact that the festival and its competitions have assisted in launching a number of players careers.

We have learnt a lot about ourselves and the arts culture here in Australia - the fact is that it is incredibly difficult to sustain a successful event in this education and artistic environment. While we have had some wonderful support we have always struggled to secure substantial financial support from government, education, business or the arts community.

MIFB has given us the opportunity to launch Just Brass in Geelong. Just Brass supports underprivileged primary school children and gives them a chance to see opportunities and gain self confidence through learning an instrument. Our focus from now on will be in this area where we can give direct support to help change young lives.

We can no longer underwrite this festival ourselves and in 2012 will celebrate our 10th anniversary with a smaller version of the festival featuring a concert at the Melbourne Town Hall with Oystein Baadsvik, Radovan Vlatkovic and the MSO. The final MIFB event will then be Mnozil Brass at Hamer Hall - a great way to celebrate 10 years of MIFB.

If you know of any individual or business who would like to support our 2012 festival please let us know.

A big thankyou to all the artists, students and volunteers who have supported us the past 10 years.

Geoff & John Collinson
