

The 2009 Barry Tuckwell Brass Prize – Competition Rules

Prize: $10,000 (AUD)
Who can enter?
Open to all brass soloists and brass ensembles worldwide.
Entries may include piano accompaniment or percussion/rhythm section.
Examples of allowable entries:
Solo brass
Solo brass with piano accompaniment
Duets, trios, quintets etc
Solo or brass ensemble with jazz rhythm section/big band - entry is to be the soloists only, not the whole ensemble
Brass band
Examples of entries that will not be accepted:
Big band (where is the entire ensemble is the entrant)
Wind quintet
Other ensembles that include non-brass instruments (piano and percussion excluded)
How to enter:
1) Upload a 10 minute video to The Music Page (www.themusicpage.com). The panel will not judge past the 10 minute mark of performances.
NB: Videos recorded prior to this competition will not be accepted.
2) At the start of the video, announce the name of the entrant(s), the title of your chosen piece(s) and include the statement:
“This is being recorded for the 2009 Melbourne International Festival of Brass – The Barry Tuckwell Brass Prize”.
3) Pay your entry fee: AUD $25 at the time of uploading your video
What happens next?
The panel will select the finalists who will then perform 'live' over the internet (through MIFB's partner, Rivus TV) during MIFB Week, September 27 to October 3. This amazing concept gives every brass player and ensemble on the planet the opportunity to win a fabulous prize and gain instant international exposure.
All you have to do is enthrall, electrify, excite and enlighten the judging panel with your artistry, musicality and imagination.
