John Collinson

John commenced playing in the Salvation Army and progressed to be the principal cornet of the Salvation Army Melbourne Staff Band at age 20, the youngest person to ever hold that position. In 1995 Melbourne composer Brenton Broadstock wrote Song of the Pilgrim for John to perform with the band on its tour of Canada.

John graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with an Honours Degree in Music Performance on the trumpet studying with Gordon Webb, Rob Sims and Robert Smithies.

He has performed with the Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Orchestra Victoria, Australian Pops Orchestra and was until recently a member of the RAAF Central Band.

John has also played in productions of Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables in Melbourne and Auckland. He has undertaken a Graduate Diploma of Management (Arts) through the University of South Australia and is Musical Director of the Hyde Street Youth Band.
